Albinism( congenital absence of any pigmentation or colouration )in Alaska's Kleekai can disqualify dogs from dog showring and breeding programs. This is because the breeding standards state that not all whites are recognized colors.

The name Klee Kai comes from the Athabaskan words meaning “little dog”.This breed was originally developed by Linda Sparlin of Alaska in the 1970s. This breed was created with Alaskan Husky, a small amount of Siberian Husky, a slightly large amount of American Eskimo Dog, and some Schipperke. Spurlin's "hardcore approach" to breeding can be considered difficult for some because it "uses the best and removes the rest" to create breeding.
